Hitachi India plans to hire more than 5,000 employees over the next few years as it expands its operations in the country. The Indian unit of Japan’s Hitachi Ltd., which is based in Bengaluru, currently employs around 42,000 people across its businesses.

According to reporting by Reuters, Hitachi’s hiring push is tied to increased activity in the country’s energy and rail sectors, as well as growing demand for artificial intelligence and industrial automation. India remains a key focus for Hitachi as infrastructure investment continues to rise.

In recent years, billions of dollars in global investment have flowed into government spending on urban infrastructure and energy grid upgrades, while many firms are also expanding in India to reduce reliance on China for manufacturing and supply chains, Reuters reported.
