The LCCI (Lilly Capability Centre India), BI&A (Business Insights & Analytics) team was started in 2017 with the objective of supporting business decisions for the commercial and marketing functions in the US and ex-US affiliates. This team is part of the LCCI - Commercial Services organization and works very closely with business analytics team based in Indianapolis (HQ). The team currently comprises of 150+ team members, with varied backgrounds and skills across data management, analytics and data sciences, business, and commercial operations etc.

Lilly wants to hire a leader for the Data sciences organization (part of our business insights and analytics organization) to accelerate Reach and scale. We are looking for a leader with advanced degrees in statistics, mathematics, econometrics, operations research and computer science to deal with the complex problems of a global business and a dynamic data and analytics environment. The BI&A data science organization aims to create valuable and measurable outcomes for Lilly’s commercial global business by creating a comprehensive view of the customer and creating scalable AI applications for capability development.

The incumbent will

  • Shape, resource and deliver work for the data sciences organization within BI&A.
  • Take ownership of people and work processes for both the Data sciences and ML Ops team  
  • Build a strong innovation and process-focused culture.
  • Work closely with LCC to plan and build these capabilities to meet strategic needs.
  • Build and leverage relationships with stakeholders across BI&A, other Commercial Services, and Lilly IT (IDS) teams.

This role will report into the Head of commercial services, LCCI.

Key Responsibilities:

Program / Project delivery

  • Scale and manage the Data Sciences team, help data scientists take ownership and deliver best outcomes, focusing on quality and productivity. Responsible for supervising, managing, and motivating team members on a day-to-day basis.
  • Lead high quality delivery on Data sciences over all- deliver class leading data sciences solutions that are scalable across all customer groups.
  • Actively lead and drive change through the capability leading a strong leadership team   to support accelerating Reach and Scale. Partner with leadership in US, brands/stakeholders and other capabilities teams to drive value and productivity.
  • Create a framework for communication, project management and execution across team to help drive best practices Implements policies and procedures that will improve operations.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand key result areas, ensure expansion and penetration of data science use-cases.
  • Know and fully understand Lilly’s processes, brand strategies and tactics and support resources to effectively coach team and remove barriers by understanding Lilly’s culture, org structure, roles and practices.
  • Lead key initiatives for data sciences across sub capabilities from ideation to impact measurement.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and remove barriers.
  • Oversee capacity planning and resourcing and look for capacity utilization across the BI&A organization in close partnership with the BI&A Analytics leader
  • Uphold Lilly policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to partner effectively across functions by cultivating a strong network of cross-functional colleges.
  • Facilitate shared learning forums to identify challenges and establish best practices across the team.
  • Build goals and manage metrics associated with the quality, speed, value of their individual reports (e.g. cycle time, rework, throughput, deviations)
  • Overall be accountable for the performance and results of the function.

People leadership

  • Develop a pipeline of data science talent and leadership, and contribute to an inclusive community of data analytics practitioners/ thought leaders.
  • Proactively operate to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration.
  • Conduct quarterly/ annual performance reviews of the team and motivate team to achieve excellent results.
  • Lead a team of leaders across datasciences and machine learning ops teams and manage HC GenOpex, and organizational targets as required.
  •  Provide leadership on standardizing frameworks for communication, project management, and execution across COE and business-focused teams
  • Drive strategy for sourcing of new talent, both internally and externally, as well as internships, early career, and experienced hiring
  • Work with Functional Leadership and HR to define career paths and develop deep and wide pipeline of market research talent and cross functional leadership
  • Contribute to an inclusive community of insights practitioners
  • Proactively identify and manage organizational and operational problems, including, but not limited to talent management, succession planning and build a deep pool of talent to meet business goals.

Strategic growth and thought leadership

  • Strategize on key opportunities/ whitespaces, drive discussions and expand outcomes from LCCI for data science solutions.
  • Focus on the future business needs and expand capabilities of the group.
  • Integrate working model for analytics capabilities across BI&A teams, and where possible, across other LCCI teams to drive better cross-team resourcing, cross-pollination of best practices.
  • Go beyond to support BI&A leadership to implement out of box solutions which support Lilly’s organizational objectives.

Minimum Position Qualifications: 

  • 16+ years of experience with strong understanding of advanced analytics, ML and AI with relevant experience designing and implementing solutions
  • Relevant experience in developing and deploying enterprise AI/ML application in AWS or other cloud platforms.
  • Knowledge of DevOps, UI development, analytics platforms, Agile Development and AI deployments
  • Demonstrate the ability to drive, lead others and influence others outside of their sphere of influence.
  • Experience in softer aspects for AI adoption, including but not limited to Responsible AI framework, Ethical AI standards and regulations
  • Manage team(s) focused on deploying high quality projects in advanced analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Manage a team i.e. responsible for staff performance evaluations and management training and development; and have authority to hire
  • Identify and hire talent to foster innovation and excellence.
  • Proven experience in assessing business value, risk mitigation, cost optimization and return on investment.
  • Deliver results based upon annual goals, department goals and management requests.
  • Develop department budget, performance standards, and schedules.
  • Establish operating policies and procedures.
  • Implement initiatives for continuous improvement and ideas for positive disruption.

Preferred Qualifications / Certifications 

  • Passion of using AI/ML techniques to solve business problems
  • Prior experience in Pharma or Life Sciences domain
