Department OverviewThe Core Platform Services team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure, reliability, security and Business operational services, in support of Motorola Solutions' public and hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable and efficient team communications, workflow and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure on Azure, AWS and GCP to build at scale.
Job DescriptionRole Summary
The Cloud FinOps Analyst will play a critical, hands-on role in driving financial accountability, delivering measurable cost savings, and enhancing operational efficiency across Motorola Solutions' (MSI) cloud environments. This role requires a unique blend of financial acumen, technical understanding, and strong interpersonal skills to coordinate high-impact initiatives across senior leadership, engineering teams, and our network of FinOps Champions.
Key Responsibilities1. Cost Optimization & Financial Management (50%)
Identify Savings: Proactively analyze cloud utilization and billing data (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.) to identify, model, and execute significant cost savings opportunities, directly contributing to the team's multi-million dollar savings target.
Pricing Strategy: Manage and optimize commitments, including Reserved Instances (RIs), Savings Plans (SPs), and volume discounts, ensuring maximum coverage and financial benefit.
Budget & Forecasting: Develop accurate cloud spending forecasts and budget models in partnership with the Finance team and business unit leaders, explaining variances and driving accountability.
2. Governance & Operational Scaling (35%)
FinOps System Management: Act as a central administrator for the FinOps operating model, ensuring consistency and adherence to cost governance policies across MSI.
Champion Coordination: Lead, support, and scale the internal network of FinOps Champions. Provide them with the necessary tools, training, and standardized reporting to successfully run FinOps within their respective business units.
Process Improvement: Partner with Engineering and Procurement teams to embed cost-aware behaviors, tagging standards, and automation into the cloud provisioning and deployment lifecycle.
3. Executive Reporting & Stakeholder Alignment (15%)
Senior Leadership Engagement: Prepare and present concise, action-oriented reports to senior leadership, translating complex cloud cost data into clear business value and strategic recommendations.
Cross-Functional Liaison: Facilitate close coordination and communication between Finance, Engineering, and Procurement teams to ensure seamless execution of cost-saving initiatives and contractual compliance.
Basic Requirements
Experience: 4+ years of experience in Cloud FinOps, Cloud Cost Management, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), or a related role focusing on cloud expense optimization.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Information Technology
Technical Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of cloud billing and usage data from at least one major provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Analytical Skills: Proven ability to analyze large datasets to identify cost drivers and translate complex data into actionable cost-saving strategies.
Financial Acumen: Understanding of cloud financial concepts, including amortization, forecasting, budget modeling, and commitment models (RIs, Savings Plans).
Collaboration & Influence: Demonstrated ability to work effectively across functions (Engineering, Finance, Procurement) and coordinate initiatives with internal stakeholders, specifically including experience supporting a governance model or a distributed system (like the FinOps Champions network).
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for presenting financial insights to both technical teams and senior leadership.
