Performs basic administration, virtual machine operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, networking checks, log review, backups verification, access management, and documentation. Escalates complex issues and supports application and infrastructure teams with deployments and environment-related problems. The role is intended for entry-level candidates with foundational Linux, networking, cloud, and scripting knowledge, including freshers with lab or personal project experience.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Cloud Support Engineer with basic knowledge of Linux and cloud infrastructure to assist with day-to-day infrastructure operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, and user support.
The candidate should understand Linux fundamentals, basic networking, virtual machines, storage, and cloud concepts. The role is suitable for someone who has foundational knowledge and is willing to learn through hands-on work under the guidance of senior engineers.
Basic exposure to a cloud platform such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, Azure, or any cloud is preferred. Practical lab experience, academic projects, or personal hands-on practice will also be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-level support for Linux servers and cloud infrastructure, and escalate complex issues to senior engineers.
- Perform basic Linux administration tasks such as checking server status, disk and memory usage, processes, services, logs, and file permissions.
- Assist with cloud virtual machine operations, including basic provisioning, starting, stopping, restarting, and checking instance health under supervision.
- Understand basic cloud networking concepts such as VCN/VPC, subnets, IP addresses, route tables, DNS, security rules, and firewalls.
- Assist in monitoring server and cloud resource availability, performance, and utilization.
- Review system logs and monitoring alerts, identify basic issues, and share clear findings with the senior support or infrastructure team.
- Support routine tasks such as service checks, backups verification, file transfers, and basic configuration checks by following documented procedures.
- Assist with troubleshooting connectivity, SSH access, disk space, service availability, and basic application-hosting issues.
- Work with application, development, and infrastructure teams to support deployments and resolve basic environment-related issues.
- Follow security practices for user access, SSH keys, permissions, passwords, firewall rules, and handling of credentials.
- Maintain accurate support tickets, operational notes, checklists, and infrastructure documentation.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- 0 to 2 years of experience in IT support, Linux administration, system administration, or cloud support. Freshers with strong fundamentals and hands-on lab practice may also apply.
- Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts such as compute, storage, networking, regions, availability zones, and shared responsibility.
- Basic Linux knowledge, preferably Ubuntu, Debian, or RHEL-based systems, including common commands such as ls, cd, cp, mv, grep, find, df, du, free, top, ps, systemctl, journalctl, and ssh.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting basics, DNS, DHCP, ports, routing, ping, traceroute, and SSH.
- Basic understanding of virtual machines, disks, snapshots, images, and backup concepts.
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting using logs, command-line tools, and documented procedures.
- Basic knowledge of users, groups, file permissions, processes, services, package management, and disk management in Linux.
- Awareness of security fundamentals such as least privilege, MFA, SSH key-based access, patching, firewall rules, and secure password handling.
- Basic command-line scripting knowledge in Bash is preferred. Python or PowerShell familiarity is an advantage.
- Good problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly.
Good to Have
- Hands-on exposure to OCI, AWS, Azure, or GCP through a job, internship, home lab, or training environment.
- Basic familiarity with cloud consoles and services such as virtual machines, virtual networks, storage, IAM, and monitoring.
- Exposure to web servers such as NGINX or Apache and basic application service management.
- Basic familiarity with databases, Docker, Git, or CI/CD concepts.
- Entry-level cloud or Linux certification, such as OCI Foundations, AWS Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals, or Linux Essentials.
- Basic exposure to VPN/IPSec concepts, backup and restore procedures, and infrastructure automation tools.
Educational Qualification
- Graduate or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or a related technical field. Candidates with relevant practical skills and lab experience may also be considered.
- Linux or cloud training/certification is an added advantage, but not mandatory.
Soft Skills
- Clear verbal and written communication.
- Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and escalation processes.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn Linux, cloud platforms, and infrastructure operations.
- Attention to detail, ownership of assigned tasks, and proper documentation.
