Role Overview

Our client is supporting the development of advanced AI systems using practical software engineering knowledge from complex enterprise and legacy technology environments.

We are looking for an experienced COBOL Developer to analyse legacy applications, explain business logic, review code, and create realistic technical scenarios for AI training. The role focuses on COBOL code analysis, mainframe workflows, documentation, testing, and legacy system behaviour. Previous experience with AI is not required.

CONTRACT: Freelance contractor, paid per completed task

COMMITMENT: Flexible, based on available tasks and project demand

LOCATIONS: Fully remote - GLOBAL

PROCESS: Application review, technical assessment, and onboarding

Responsibilities

  • Analyse existing COBOL programs, workflows, and business rules.
  • Explain complex legacy code in clear technical documentation.
  • Review and annotate COBOL code, scripts, and pseudocode.
  • Identify edge cases, ambiguities, and potential logic issues.
  • Evaluate technical scenarios and AI-generated COBOL content.
  • Create realistic test cases based on enterprise COBOL applications.
  • Document program behaviour, data flows, and system dependencies.
  • Provide structured technical feedback to improve training materials.
  • Collaborate with technical experts and project coordinators remotely.

Requirements
  • Strong professional experience in COBOL development.
  • Experience analysing and maintaining complex legacy applications.
  • Familiarity with mainframe environments and related development tools.
  • Experience documenting COBOL logic, workflows, and business rules.
  • Ability to design or review test cases for COBOL applications.
