Job Description

The Customer Engineer - Data Imports & Migrations Engineer leads complex, customer-facing data onboarding, migration, and integration efforts on our platform. This role requires deep expertise in Python, SQL, and API-based data ingestion, along with strong judgment in handling ambiguous data, scale, and data quality challenges.

Engineers at this level operate with minimal supervision, lead medium–high complexity customer engagements, define reusable migration patterns, and mentor junior engineers. They frequently serve as the technical lead for data onboarding and migration initiatives, ensuring reliability, correctness, security, and performance from Day 1

Responsibilities:

• Lead end-to-end data import and migration projects for customers, from discovery and design through execution, validation, and go-live.
• Design and build scalable data ingestion pipelines using Python, REST APIs, and SQL to load data into the platform.
• Handle complex data transformations, normalization, deduplication, and enrichment during migration.
• Design migration strategies for large, inconsistent, or legacy datasets, including incremental loads, reprocessing, and rollback plans.
• Validate data correctness through reconciliation queries, audit checks, and automated verification logic.
• Integrate with external customer systems via APIs, file-based imports, or hybrid approaches.
• Implement secure data handling and ensure imports respect row-level access control, permissions, and data isolation rules.
• Optimize imports for performance, reliability, and observability (logging, metrics, retries, idempotency).
• Define, document, and improve reusable migration frameworks, tooling, and best practices.
• Mentor IC1–IC3 engineers on data migration patterns, SQL quality, debugging, and customer delivery

Requirements:

• 2 - 4 years of experience in data engineering, data migration, ETL, or customer implementation roles.
• Strong proficiency in Python for building data pipelines, import scripts, and automation.
• Advanced SQL skills, including complex joins, aggregations, reconciliation queries, and performance tuning.
• Hands-on experience integrating systems using REST APIs (auth, pagination, rate limits, retries, error handling).
• Experience designing and executing large-scale data migrations, including incremental and backfill strategies.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, version control, and deployment workflows for data pipelines and tooling.
• Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms (compute, storage, networking, logging/monitoring).
• Strong understanding of data quality, validation, auditing, and reconciliation techniques.
• Ability to design secure data imports that respect access control and multi-tenant data isolation.
• Chemical Engineering or other relevant science degrees are an added advantage

Work Location & Travel Expectations 

• This role is remote-friendly, allowing team members to work remotely on a regular basis.
• Occasional travel to our office locations in Bangalore and Chennai is expected to support team meetings, planning sessions, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Travel is anticipated to be approximately 10–15% of the time, which typically translates to around 5–8 weeks per year, based on business and team needs
