The Data Engineering team is part of Cognite's Global Customer Success (GCS) organization, which has a global presence in Oslo (Norway), Austin & Houston (Texas, USA), Tokyo (Japan), and now Bengaluru, India.


GCS comprises Project Managers, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Solution Architects specializing in Oil and Gas, Power & Utilities, and Manufacturing domains. Our goal is to deliver successful, scalable projects that drive product adoption and unlock insights from hidden data, transforming heavy asset industries to be more efficient and sustainable.


This role reports to the EMEA (Oslo) office and supports customer projects in MENA (Middle East and North Africa) and SEA (South East Asia). The Oslo team consists of around 80 Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Solution/Enterprise Architects, and Project Managers, while Bengaluru will soon have 7 resources within GCS.


About the role


As a Data Engineer at Cognite, your focus will be on tackling industrial challenges by designing, developing, and implementing data infrastructure and pipelines. You'll create robust data architectures that collect and connect data from diverse sources. This role offers the opportunity to grow into a Tech Lead, guiding and mentoring a team of data engineers. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven solutions that empower clients to make impactful business decisions.

Role and responsibilities

  • Lead design and implementation of scalable data engineering solutions using Cognite Data Fusion.
  • Drive integrations, data modeling, and analysis using Cognite data connectors and SQL, Python/Java, and Rest APIs.
  • Develop custom data models for discovery, mapping, and cleansing.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, project managers, and solution architects to deliver projects.
  • Conduct code reviews, implement best practices for high-quality, maintainable code.
  • Support customers and partners with data engineering tasks using Cognite products.
  • Work with Engineering and Product Management teams to prioritize customer needs into product offerings.

We believe most of these should match your experience

  • Bachelor or Master degree in computer science or similar. Relevant experience can compensate for formal education
  • Experience of 3-5 years in a customer-facing Data intense role
  • Experience delivering production-grade data pipelines using Python, SQL and Rest APIs is a must
  • Domain experience/knowledge of data sources within oil and gas & manufacturing industry is a plus
  • Experience with distributed computing such as Kubernetes and managed cloud services such as GCP and/or Azure
  • Have a DevOps mindset, and experience with Git, CI/CD, deployment environments
  • Enjoys working in cross-functional teams
  • Able to independently investigate and solve problems
  • Humility to ask for help and enjoy sharing knowledge with others
