Role Definition
Caterpillar will be launching new Battery Electric Machines and related services over the next several years, and new digital tools will be needed to help with the design, planning, and operation of these new all electric construction sites. This product owner will work as part of the larger Electrification & Energy Products team to develop these tools. This role will support the product and requirements definition of these new tools and will work with Engineering and Incubation teams to see them taken from prototype to production. This role will also have an emphasis on the definition and creation of new quality processes, as well as working with multiple teams to resolve identified quality issues.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for documenting and ensuring alignment on product features tied to system quality/performance improvements - using both formal (e.g. Epics and Features) and informal approaches depending on the situation
- Manages the creation, maintenance, and prioritization of the Product Backlogs tied to quality/performance improvement and according to business and strategic value in alignment with E&ES partners.
- Define metrics and measures for quality and set up new processes to track and resolve end to end quality issues.
- Coordinates with Engineering, firmware team, and others to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve end to end quality challenges.
Required Skills
- Application Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new software application from concept through to production.
- Effective Communications: Ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, requirements, and processes in a manner appropriate for the intended audience
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and prioritize features, enhancements, and integrations based on customer feedback, market research, and industry trends. Work closely with business development teams, design, analytics, and engineering to translate product requirements into detailed user stories, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
- Performance Measurement and Tuning: Knowledge of system performance, testing and programming; ability to monitor, measure, and optimize system performance and network communication.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
- Software Product Management: Knowledge of software product management; ability to operate and manage software product development projects at all stages of the product development lifecycle.
- Feature Documentation: Knowledge of technical writing; ability to write detailed product requirements for data structures to support new application or analytic features/functionality.
Top Candidates would have :
- Domain Knowledge: Understanding of electric vehicles, energy management, site power, charge management, or other domains relevant to electrification
- Experience with hardware and software system end to end integration (e.g. telematics)
- Speed to Output: Experience in an agile working environment of quick turns and frequent iteration
- Experience with database design and data pipelines
- Product Roadmap Development: Ability to group and phase a range of deliverables from MVP to follows on releases, in a way that progressively adds capability and builds trust with users.
