Job Description

Role Overview: 

Seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to lead our application development team. This role involves overseeing software application development, delivery, and maintenance that meet business needs and enhance user experience. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing software development teams, a strong technical background, and the ability to drive innovation while aligning with strategic business goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build and direct a cohesive team of internal and external personnel to effectively develop across a broad range of technologies, including packaged implementations, custom development, and maintenance.
  • Prioritize and manage development activities, ensuring that projects are completed on time/budget and with superior quality. Provide technical expertise, support, and guidance in planning and implementing. 
  • Ensure effective use of staff, the smooth/efficient operation of the Department group, proper controls, and minimal downtime due to system issues.
  • Oversee the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC), from concept through delivery and support, ensuring best practices and quality standards are met.
  • Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with our key business & IT stakeholders and create an understanding of needs, complexities, impact, and opportunities to support decision-making.
  • Manage and mentor the team, including performance reviews, development plans, and succession planning.
  • Drive team upskilling to align with current and future technology and include industry best practices.
  • Facilitate prioritization with stakeholders when required.
  • Perform investment/resource planning across the portfolio.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Competence in managing budgets, forecasting costs, and ensuring projects are delivered within financial constraints
  • Commitment to quality and excellence, with a thorough understanding of quality assurance methodologies and tools
  • Implement and maintain robust cybersecurity measures to protect the company's data and information assets.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards related to IT and data management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical and non-technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Proficiency in Agile development methodologies (eg., Scrum, Kanban) and DevOps practices, including continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in software development, with at least 7+ years in a leadership role within IT management
    • Hands-on experience in custom development, technologies not limited to Java or .NET or C# or SQL or Angular
    • 5+ years' experience working in a test-driven development and agile environment using the latest code revision and continuous integration tools and techniques
    • 5+ years' experience designing and building scalable and supportable APIs
    • Preferred experience in DevOps and Cloud Strategy
    • Experience in leading, mentoring, and motivating a diverse team of Software developers, engineers, Business Analysts, and testers
    • Full SDLC experience is required. Hands-on experience in analysis, design, development, QA, documentation, team leadership, mentoring and problem-solving
    • Strong technical expertise in software development methodologies architecture, DevOps, and design principles
    • Experience with cloud technologies, microservices architecture, and DevOps practices
    • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels
    • Proven experience with Agile development methodologies and leading agile transformation initiatives
    • Commitment to continuous learning and staying abreast of the latest technology trends
    • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Manufacturing around printing experience is a plus.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Masters is a plus
    • Project Management, Azure or AWS, or any cloud platform certification is a plus
