Merchant Engineering’s mission is to simplify commerce by providing a one-stop payment platform for all customer segments. We are the customer-facing teams within Product and Platform Engineering building the touchpoints that interact with our customers across all stacks (PayPal, Braintree and Hyperwallet), across all channels (online and in-store, web and mobile) for our Merchants. 

Within Commerce Solutions and Services, PayPal’s Merchant Engineering team is looking for a talented front-end engineer with strong application engineering fundamentals and JavaScript programming experience to design and build solutions supporting our merchant engagement strategy.

This Engineering Manager role will influence merchant experiences for PayPal. The person is a highly motivated, versatile, hands-on Engineering Manager responsible for leading a team of skilled engineers, helping with design, implementation and delivering of state-of-the-art web experiences for the customers in India and similar emerging markets.  

The ideal candidate is an individual with deep experiences in building customer facing products that involve web interfaces, as well as mid-tier and backend components.  

Build, grow, and retain an excellent engineering team to innovate, invent, and deploy best-in-class software. Develop and grow this talent through effective mentoring and coaching.  

Your day to day  

  • Exhibit leadership and management skills to design, develop and deliver high impact initiatives for PayPal India and emerging markets.  

  • Responsible for end-end development life cycle of web and mobile products and features.  

  • Manage the daily activities of the engineering team working on Agile scrum model.  

  • Demonstrate high degree of people focus and be a team player who can collaborate effectively across various teams within PayPal with integrity and commitment.  

  • Be highly customer centric and bat towards delivering customer delight through the. products and features.  

  • Act as a bridge between product and technology teams and marry business needs with technology solves.  

  • Demonstrate Team and Stakeholder management skills towards meeting project timelines and delivery commitments.  

 

What do you need to bring-

  • Should have overall 13+ years of experience and Proven 4+ years of experience as a team engineering manager.

  • Hands-on experience as a software developer, ideally in Java or JavaScript, with experience across multiple layers of the application stack  

  • Willingness to step in hands-on if necessary 

  • Advanced knowledge in software architecture from at least one of: web applications and/or Node or Java backends  

  • The prospective candidate will be working with various cross functional groups (business, product, analytics, user experience design and engineering) and will require admirable articulation, negotiation and influencing skills given the level of visibility.

  • The person is also expected to manage a team of about 20 engineers, and constantly groom them into strong professionals. 

  • Experience or Awareness of the payments industry is a big plus.
