Boeing India Engineering & Technology Center (BIETC) is based in Bangalore, India and is engaged in the development of advanced aerospace and aviation technologies and software products. We have an immediate opening for an Engineering Manager to lead multiple teams developing digital solutions related to Flight Planning and Navigation Data Solutions. This position will report to the Engineering leader of the Boeing Global Services (BGS) Digital Aviation Solutions group within BIETC and work closely with stakeholders across the globe.

 Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of Digital & Software.
  • Good technical experience leading teams developing cloud platforms, data analytics, domain driven design and advanced software engineering techniques used in customer facing products and services. Experience in developing software, and don’t hesitate to roll up their sleeve when needed to work with the team to solve a technical issue.
  • Work closely with Tech Product managers, tech architects and Dev teams to understand and influence the technical direction during the full product lifecycle throughout the conceptualization, product roadmap development, execution, and product launch using their strong technical background.
  • Forecasts resource needs and makes hiring decisions. Coaches, counsels, mentors and provides developmental opportunities and job assignments to enhance employee performance and expand capabilities. Ensures employees are working effectively with all development teams. Provides on-going developmental feedback. Enforces company rules and policies regarding ethical behavior, safety, security, use of company property, time charging, etc.
  • Partner and engage with internal and external stakeholders, maintain relationships/partnerships with internal customers, peers and partners to develop strategies, goals and objectives that are consistent with the organization’s strategy. The position will be pivotal in creating and maintaining relationships with the Global teams and working closely with those stakeholders in planning and forecasting activities of the team as well as reporting requirements from stakeholders.
  • Provide periodic updates to senior management in the form of progress reports, project summaries, and other related documents.
  • Must foster an innovative work environment leading to identification of opportunities for improvements in product, process, quality, and productivity.
  • Support SRR (Systems Requirements Review), PDR (Preliminary Design Reviews) and CDR (Critical Design Reviews).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor or Master of Engineering degree is needed as a basic qualification with 13 to 16 years of related work experience.
  • Demonstrated Software Engineering experience with involvement in all phases of the software development life cycle using various software development platforms.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills: The ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions is important.
  • Domain Driven Design: Good understanding of domain driven design to influence and direct the team as needed.

Technical skills-

  • Basic programming skills - Java, Spring boot, Angular, C++ or any other language
  • Cloud Experience- Azure Cloud, AWS, Azure AI, Data Bricks, Data Engineering
  • AI/ML Gen AI- Good to have exposure to AI/ML and Gen AI
  • Database – Aware of database concepts
  • DevOps & SRE- Aware of basic concept of DevOps and SRE
  • Architecture – Well versed with modern architecture such as microservices, modularization, API first economy etc.…

Aviation Domain-

  • Experience in flight operations and piloting procedures
  • Flight Management System (FMS) domain knowledge
  • Knowledge on Weather, Wind updates, GRIB, , Navigation database, Notams, CRAM/CDR, Brief idea on enroute charges and Tracks, ACARS, Euro control B2B feeds
  • Familiar with Airspace structure domain knowledge
  • Knowledge of Airline Operations Center (AOC) domain

Process Skills and Techniques

  • Project Management: Proficiency in managing projects and customer milestones, including planning, resource allocation, risk management, and ensuring timely delivery of products and capabilities.
  • Agile Methodologies: Familiarity with agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban, to facilitate iterative and incremental development.
  • Quality Assurance: Knowledge of quality assurance processes and methodologies to ensure the delivery of high-quality, bug-free digital products.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Adept at identifying and resolving technical challenges and issues that may arise during the development process.
