About the Team: The Engineering team at Emergent builds the core systems that power our autonomous agents, platform reliability, and product velocity. We operate in an engineering-first environment with high ownership, fast feedback loops, and a strong bias toward shipping. The team works closely with Product, Research, and Design to turn ambitious ideas into production-grade systems.
The Role: As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a high-performing team of engineers building and scaling critical platform and product capabilities. You'll balance people leadership with technical depth, ensuring your team delivers reliably while growing in skill, ownership, and impact. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, enjoys building strong teams, and wants to shape both systems and culture at scale.
What You'll Do:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers through coaching, feedback, and career development
- Drive high-quality, on-time delivery of product features and platform improvements
- Own technical execution, system design, and architectural decisions for your team's domain
- Partner closely with Product, Design, and cross-functional stakeholders to define and execute roadmaps
- Build a strong culture of ownership, code quality, and operational excellence
- Hire and onboard top engineering talent as the team scales
- Improve engineering processes, tooling, and best practices to support rapid growth
- Ensure teams take ownership from design through production, monitoring, and iteration
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 1 to 3+ years of experience leading or managing engineering teams
- Strong computer science fundamentals and system design skills
- Experience building and operating production systems at scale using modern backend technologies (Python, Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar)
- Proven ability to own projects end-to-end and deliver with high quality
- Excellent communication skills and a strong product mindset
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in high-growth startups or engineering-first organizations
- Exposure to frontend or full-stack development
- Experience working on developer platforms, SaaS products, or AI-driven systems
- Prior ownership of highly available, customer-facing systems
