FAST Labs' staff partner with leading government research labs and organizations, including DARPA, IARPA, and AFRL to develop innovative solutions to modern defense challenges. Members of the group are involved in the entire cycle of technology research and development, from initial concept ideation, program shaping and proposal development, through execution (including prototype development, integration, and test) and transition of research concepts to BAE Systems' business areas and products.
We are seeking Chief Scientist for our Edge and Spectral Artificial Intelligence (AI) research group. Our research interests include radio frequency (RF), machine learning (ML), cognitive electronic warfare (EW), cognitive radio, cognitive signals intelligence (SIGINT), trustworthy AI, novel learning methodologies, and adaptive decision making and control across distributed systems, among others. Successful candidates will be involved in multiple research programs with roles including technical leadership, technical development, customer interaction, program management, or new concept development. • have significant, quantitative new business capture objectives, both for new business pursuits and for the capture of follow-up work to the technical efforts they lead.
  • have significant customer interaction, initiating customer contact to create new business opportunities.
  • are expected to be entrepreneurial in the creation, shaping, capture, and promotion of CRAD for groundbreaking technologies for current and future BAE Systems products. Chief Scientists own a technical portion of a FAST Labs product line's strategic technical plan.
  • guide transition of disruptive technologies into BAE System's Business Areas' products and services.
  • are expected to provide technical review and strategic guidance to programs and to portfolios of programs to align technology development, internal investments, and intellectual property capture to business needs.
  • are expected to mentor other scientists and to support their efforts.

This position can be based out of our Merrimack, NH; Burlington, MA; or Arlington, VA facilities, though it will require collaboration with staff across our business areas and facilities in the Northeast.
