About the Role
We're looking for a Head of Engineering to establish world-class engineering standards and build a high-performing engineering organization. This is our senior engineering leadership role, reporting directly to the CTO.
You'll inherit a talented but flat team of ~20 engineers that needs structure, process, and leadership development. Your mission: transform how we build, ship, and maintain software while growing the next generation of engineering leaders.
This role is about engineering excellence, people development, and strategic thinking. We need someone who gets their hands dirty fixing foundational issues while building the processes and leaders to scale.
What You’ll Do :
Drive Engineering Excellence- Focus on foundations — Establish local development environments, testing frameworks, data access and deployment practices that don't currently exist
- Set and enforce standards — Create lightweight processes for planning, testing, and deployment that increase both quality and velocity
- Eliminate critical risks — Ensure security, AI enablement, and data integrity are non-negotiable
- Ship incrementally — Transform our culture from "building cars" to "shipping skateboards" through clear review mechanisms
- Structure the org — Move from 20 direct reports to a sustainable structure
- Hire and retain top talent — Improve new hire failure rate through better assessment and onboarding
- Grow leaders — Coach and develop engineering ICs who can own their domains independently and become TLMs
- Create accountability — Implement performance management that's fair, transparent, and drives growth
- Connect engineering to customers — Establish regular customer interaction for all engineers
- Partner cross-functionally — Work effectively with Product, Design, Sales, Customer Success without being the bottleneck
- Make technical bets — Guide architectural decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term scalability
- Understand AI/ML systems — While not required to be an expert, guide teams building LLM-powered products
What It Takes :
Required Experience- 5+ years managing engineering managers — You've built and led multi-layer organizations
- Proven engineering excellence — Led teams at companies known for world-class engineering standards
- Track record fixing broken processes — Transformed engineering cultures from chaos to excellence
- High-growth experience — Worked at Series C+ or equivalent companies with strong engineering brands
- Quality obsessed — You have strong opinions on testing, deployment, and development practices
- Talent magnet — Can assess, attract, and develop exceptional engineers and engineering leaders
- Execution focused — Ship regularly by breaking down complex problems into incremental wins
- Clear communicator — Translate technical complexity for any audience
- Modern system design, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), and microservices
- Data-intensive applications and multi-tenant architectures
- Familiarity with AI/ML systems (experience with LLMs a plus)
- End-to-End Ownership: Own the entire engineering function — from scaling infra to embedding AI into every layer of the product. No red tape, just impact.
- Define the Bar: Set the gold standard for engineering culture, architecture, and velocity in a product-led, AI-native company.
