Lead Software Engineer - Java Full Stack

About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Software Engineer.
We are looking for a Lead Java Full Stack Engineer to design, build, and lead the development of scalable, high-performance applications. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and secure software solutions.
In this role, you will:

• Lead complex technology initiatives including those that are companywide with broad impact
• Act as a key participant in developing standards and companywide best practices for engineering complex and large scale technology solutions for technology engineering disciplines
• Design, code, test, debug, and document for projects and programs
• Review and analyze complex, large-scale technology solutions for tactical and strategic business objectives, enterprise technological environment, and technical challenges that require in-depth evaluation of multiple factors, including intangibles or unprecedented technical factors
• Make decisions in developing standard and companywide best practices for engineering and technology solutions requiring understanding of industry best practices and new technologies, influencing and leading technology team to meet deliverables and drive new initiatives
• Collaborate and consult with key technical experts, senior technology team, and external industry groups to resolve complex technical issues and achieve goals
• Lead projects, teams, or serve as a peer mentor

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

• experience in Java development, including full stack and microservices architectures.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate.
• Hands-on experience with React or Angular.
• Solid experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Hands-on knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Experience with messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ) and async processing.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, Git, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Ansible).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Job Expectations:

• Lead the design and development of Java-based full stack applications using Spring Boot and React/Angular.
• Define and drive system architecture, design patterns, and best engineering practices.
• Build and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs and integrate with SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Mentor and guide engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and technical direction.
• Ensure performance, scalability, reliability, and security of applications.
• Collaborate with product, UX, and QA teams in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Implement and support CI/CD pipelines, cloud deployments, and production support.
• Promote SRE best practices, observability, and operational excellence.
