Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Data Science (Analytics) to lead analytics for eBay’s Global Buying Hub (GBH) — a high-impact portfolio that functions as a microcosm of eBay, spanning category performance, customer behavior, shipping and logistics, trust and risk, and product experiences.

This is a hands-on leadership role. In addition to managing and developing a team of data scientists and analysts, you will personally own and contribute to complex analytical work, particularly in ambiguous, high-impact problem areas. You will set direction, review and elevate the team’s output, and directly drive the most critical analyses and data products.

This role requires a leader who can operate at multiple levels — diving deep into data and models when needed, while also scaling impact through strong people leadership, prioritization, and process.

Key ResponsibilitiesAnalytics & Data Product Leadership (Hands-on)
  • Own end-to-end delivery of high-impact analytics and data products, including direct individual contribution on complex or strategic problems

  • Lead design of analytical frameworks, modeling approaches, and data product architecture

  • Personally review, debug, and elevate complex analyses and models to ensure rigor and business relevance

  • Ensure analytics solutions are scalable, production-ready, and aligned with business and product strategy

People Management & Team Development
  • Build, lead, and develop a team of data scientists and analysts across experience levels

  • Coach team members through technical guidance, code/analysis reviews, and structured feedback

  • Set a high bar for analytical quality, ownership, and storytelling

  • Partner with recruiting to hire and onboard top analytics talent

Execution, Prioritization & Process
  • Translate business strategy into a clear, prioritized analytics roadmap, balancing IC work with team delivery

  • Make tradeoffs between speed, depth, and scalability, and communicate those decisions clearly

  • Build processes that ensure predictable delivery, high quality, and strong stakeholder trust

  • Establish review mechanisms (design reviews, analysis readouts, postmortems) to scale quality

Advanced Analytics & Technical Oversight
  • Remain technically deep in Python, SQL, statistics, and ML, with the ability to step in hands-on when required

  • Guide and contribute to advanced modeling (e.g., churn, propensity, segmentation, forecasting, experimentation)

  • Partner with data engineering to influence pipeline design and data modeling decisions

AI & Analytics Transformation
  • Drive adoption of AI- and LLM-enabled analytics to improve insight generation and team productivity

  • Experiment hands-on with AI-powered workflows and agentic systems where appropriate

  • Lead the team in operationalizing AI-driven analytics capabilities responsibly

Strategic Insights & Executive Communication
  • Synthesize insights across analyses (both yours and the team’s) into clear, executive-ready narratives

  • Act as a trusted analytics advisor to senior product and business leaders

  • Represent analytics perspectives in leadership forums and planning discussions

Cross-functional & Global Collaboration
  • Work closely with product, engineering, and business partners across US and EU markets

  • Influence product roadmaps, success metrics, and measurement strategies through data

  • Ensure strong alignment between analytics priorities and broader organizational goals

Required Qualifications
  • 11–15 years of experience delivering analytics and data science solutions at scale

  • 3–6+ years of experience managing and developing analytics or data science teams

  • Strong hands-on expertise in Python and SQL; able and willing to contribute directly when needed

  • Deep experience with statistical modeling, machine learning, and experimentation

  • Proven track record of personally owning complex analytics problems while scaling delivery through teams

  • Experience working with large, complex datasets and modern data platforms

  • Ability to structure ambiguous problems and drive them to execution

  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, including executive-level influence

  • Strong prioritization and execution skills in fast-paced environments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AI/LLM-powered analytics or automation solutions, including hands-on experimentation

  • Familiarity with modern data stack tools (e.g., Snowflake, Airflow, dbt)

  • Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, or retail analytics

  • Exposure to data product management or platform analytics teams

  • Experience operating in global, cross-region organizations

What You’ll Get
  • A hands-on leadership role with meaningful IC ownership and strategic influence

  • Opportunity to scale analytics impact across millions of sellers and buyers

  • Ownership of high-visibility problem spaces at the intersection of data, product, and business

  • A collaborative, data-driven culture focused on impact, rigor, and innovation

  • A key role in eBay’s evolution toward AI-powered analytics at scale
