As a Mechanical Engineer, you’ll leverage your strong foundation in physics, mathematics, and materials science to process and resolve mechanical problems, design and implement custom mechanical tooling and associated processes, and enable the handling, assembly, and disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and modifying mechanical engineering layouts, schematics, and specifications. You will oversee manufacturing and installation processes, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations-- and you'll coordinate the procurement and assembly of mechanical components and equipment for design projects, identifying sources of critical parts and subsystems to resolve technical issues.

Mechanical Engineer (E3) – Design for Manufacturing (DFM)

Role Responsibilities

  • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and DFX initiatives across semiconductor equipment products to improve manufacturability, producibility, assembly efficiency, quality, reliability, and supply chain robustness.
  • Partner with Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Suppliers to resolve manufacturing issues, build challenges, supplier technical queries, and product readiness concerns.
  • Review drawings, assemblies, specifications, and BOMs to identify manufacturability risks, tolerance concerns, process limitations, and opportunities for simplification.
  • Drive manufacturing-focused design reviews and provide recommendations to improve yield, reduce cycle time, improve assembly efficiency, and enhance product quality.
  • Support NPI builds, qualification builds, factory integration, manufacturing ramp, and engineering change implementation activities.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to assess manufacturing feasibility, process capability, quality requirements, and qualification readiness.
  • Lead resolution of supplier deviations, NCRs, build issues, process escapes, and manufacturing non-conformances.
  • Drive Value Engineering (VE) and Continuous Improvement initiatives focused on manufacturability, quality improvement, lead-time reduction, and productivity enhancements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • 8-12 years of experience in Semiconductor Equipment, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Engineering, Product Engineering, NPI Engineering, or DFM-related roles.
  • Strong expertise in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), DFX, manufacturability assessments, and manufacturing readiness reviews.
  • Hands-on manufacturing knowledge across multiple component categories including Precision Machined Components, Sheet Metal Fabrications, Castings, Plastics, Ceramics, Weldments, Surface Treatments, and Electro-Mechanical Assemblies.
  • Strong proficiency in NX, Creo, and PLM tools such as Windchill and/or Teamcenter.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerance optimization, drawing interpretation, process capability, and manufacturing feasibility assessments.
  • Experience utilizing aPriori, DFMPro, or similar manufacturability assessment tools.
  • Experience supporting build issue resolution, supplier technical concerns, qualification activities, and manufacturing process improvements.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence engineering teams, manufacturing organizations, and suppliers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting Semiconductor Equipment Build, Integration, Qualification, and Manufacturing Ramp activities.
  • Experience with DFMEA, PFMEA, APQP, PPAP, Root Cause Analysis, and Process Capability Studies.
  • Experience leading supplier manufacturability reviews, process audits, and production readiness assessments.
  • Experience driving Value Engineering (VE) and Value Analysis (VA) projects resulting in measurable improvements in manufacturability, lead time, quality, or productivity.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience leveraging AI-Powered Engineering and Productivity Tools to accelerate manufacturability assessments, drawing reviews, data analysis, and technical documentation.
