Role Overview
We are looking for a Principal Engineer to help define and scale the next generation of Tazapay’s global payments platform.The platform supports high-volume global payment flows across multiple currencies (fiat, stablecoins, and cryptocurrencies) and geographies.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on solving complex distributed systems problems in areas such as payment orchestration and routing, cross-border settlement, financial ledgers, treasury management, fraud detection, AML and stablecoin infrastructure.
A key part of this role will be helping evolve our engineering practices toward AI-assisted software development and identifying where AI-driven capabilities can improve our platform.
This role requires a strong combination of deep technical expertise, pragmatic system design, and the ability to influence teams across the engineering organization.
Key Responsibilities
● Design and evolve the architecture of distributed systems powering global payment flows, settlement, and financial infrastructure with strong guarantees around transactional integrity, auditability, security, compliance and financial correctness.
● Act as a technical leader across teams, defining architectural standards and engineering best practices that guide the evolution of the platform across teams.
● Remain hands-on in critical parts of the system, contributing to architecture, design, and key implementations where necessary.
● Drive AI-native engineering practices. Improve AI-assisted development workflows across the team. Evaluate and implement AI/ML/agentic opportunities in our product and lead implementation.
● Collaborate with engineering, product, and business leaders to translate complex business requirements into reliable and scalable technical systems.
● Identify and solve system-level bottlenecks related to performance, reliability, scalability, and operational complexity.
● Mentor and guide senior engineers and technical leaders, helping raise the overall technical bar of the organization.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
● 12+ years of experience building and operating large-scale backend systems, including significant experience designing distributed systems in production environments.
● Prior experience as a Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or equivalent technical leadership role.
● Strong hands-on experience designing and building backend systems using Golang ( our primary backend programming language) or equivalent experience in Java, Python, or C++.
● Deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, consistency models, asynchronous architectures, and system reliability.
● Experience building and operating high-availability services in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
● Strong experience diagnosing and solving complex system problems related to performance, reliability, and scalability.
● Experience designing data models and storage systems using relational and NoSQL databases.
● Strong technical communication skills with the ability to influence engineers and stakeholders across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
● Deep expertise in Go concurrency patterns, performance tuning, and production debugging
● Prior experience with fintech and payments
● Proven expertise in the digital assets, stable coins, crypto current or block chain technologies
