As a Principal Software Engineering Manager at KnowBe4, you will play a pivotal role in driving our software engineering initiatives to new heights. Your expertise will shape our product development strategy and ensure the seamless integration of cutting-edge solutions into our cybersecurity offerings. 

Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Minimum 10 years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of 3+ years of successfully leading teams delivering software-driven products in a product development organization.
  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of talented software engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
  • Product Development: Drive the design, development, deployment, maintenance, and bug fixing of KnowBe4 products.
  • Customer Experience: Ensure seamless account migration across different regions to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Technical Roadmap: Define and execute the technical roadmap, aligning with strategic business objectives.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate effectively with teams across various geographical locations to understand product requirements and translate them into actionable engineering tasks.
  • Project Management: Set clear project goals, manage timelines, and ensure the team delivers high-quality results.
  • Talent Development: Provide mentorship and technical guidance to team members, fostering their professional growth.
  • Performance Monitoring: Regularly evaluate project progress, identify areas for improvement, and make data-driven decisions.
  • Team Building: Recruit and retain top-tier talent to build and maintain a high-performing engineering team.

To thrive in this role, you'll need a strong foundation in software engineering and a background in product development. The following skills are essential:

Technical Skills:

  • Ruby and Rails Expertise: Deep understanding of Ruby and Ruby on Rails, including best practices, design patterns, and performance optimization. Recent work experience of 3+ years.
  • Experience with RSpec, Minitest, or other testing frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Rails ecosystem gems (e.g., Devise, CanCanCan, Sidekiq).
  • Full-Stack Proficiency: Proficiency in front-end technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and back-end development.
  • Front-end development: Hands-on experience with any of Svelte/React/Vue.
  • Serverless Tech stack:  Like AWS lambdas, SNS, SQS, Step Functions.
  • API Development: Experience with RESTful and GraphQL API design and implementation.
  • Database Management: Strong knowledge of database systems like PostgreSQL and MySQL.
  • Version Control: Proficiency in Git and other version control systems.
  • Agile Development: Understanding of Agile methodologies and their application in software development.
  • Cloud Platforms: Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Containerization: Experience with containerization technologies like Docker.
  • CI/CD: Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Microservices: Knowledge of microservices architecture and its implementation.
  • Background Jobs and Caching: Experience with background job processing and caching mechanisms.
  • Web Security: Understanding of web security best practices.

Soft Skills:

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Mentorship: Experience mentoring and guiding junior developers.
