We're looking for a Principal Backend Software Engineer to join our team, passionately focused on delivering creative improvements for our engineering teams.

  • You'll be part of the Trust Engineering (Anti-Abuse) Team and report to a Senior Engineering Manager.
  • We have teams in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and this will be our expansion to India. This team is responsible for building and operating mature platforms/software systems to improve the entire company's security and trust & safety posture.

What you'll do

  • Regularly tackle the largest and most complex problems on the team, from technical design to launch
  • Deliver solutions that are used by other teams and products
  • Determine plans-of-attack on large projects
  • Solve complex architecture challenges, apply architectural standards and use them on new projects
  • Become subject matter expert in your domain (anti-abuse and trust engineering) and amplify your knowledge across the company
  • Routinely tackle complex architecture challenges and apply architectural standards and start using them on new projects
  • Lead code reviews & documentation as well as take on complex bug fixes, especially on high-risk problems
  • Set the standard for thorough, meaningful code reviews
  • Partner across engineering teams to take on company-wide initiatives spanning multiple projects
  • Transfer your depth of knowledge from your current language to excel as a Software Engineer
  • Mentor more junior members of the larger team
  • Lead abuse incidents and guide product and platform engineering teams on best practices that your team helps to define
  • Write automation and rules for detecting and responding to abuse on our platform


Your background

  • 10+ years experience in multiple hands-on software/technology leadership roles, with end-to-end responsibility through the software development lifecycle
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree with a preference for Computer Science degree
  • Expertise with one or more prominent languages such as Java, Python, Kotlin, Go, or Scala is required - Go preferred
  • Understanding of SaaS, PaaS, IaaS industry with hands-on experience with public cloud offerings (e.g., AWS, GCP, or Azure) - AWS preferred
  • Experience crafting and implementing well-tested, highly scalable and performant micro-services and/or other distributed systems
  • Knowledge to evaluate trade-offs between correctness, robustness, performance, space and time
  • Practice in mentoring other engineers and influencing decision makers throughout the organization
  • Considers the customer impact when making technical decisions

  • Experience in building services to improve security
  • Experience in trust & safety or anti-abuse practices, processes and building services to improve trust posture
  • Experience in enhancing SDLC to improve security or safety or products
  • Experience in building highly available and reliable distributed services in AWS in multi-regional environments
  • Experience in detection and response capabilities
  • Experience in file scanning capabilities
  • Proficiency in Go, Python, Java and TypeScript
  • Experience in CI (Continuous Integration) and CD (Continuous Deployment)
  • Data engineering and analytics experience
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat landscape, and best practices
