Role
- We are looking for a Senior RPG Developer to lead the development, maintenance, and support of our mission-critical IBM iSeries (AS/400) applications. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in RPG programming, deep expertise in IBM iSeries systems, and the ability to mentor junior developers while driving technological advancements and improvements.
- This role requires a good communicator who can collaborate effectively with multi-location based stakeholders and team members.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and enhancement of RPG programs and applications on the IBM iSeries platform.
- Collaborate with business analysts, project managers, and stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications and solutions.
- Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and mentor junior developers to foster skill development and ensure best practices.
- Troubleshoot complex application issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions.
- Drive the adoption of modern RPG practices, including RPG IV and RPG Free, to improve code quality and maintainability.
- Participate in the software development lifecycle, including planning, coding, testing, deployment, and documentation.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in IBM iSeries and RPG technologies, and recommend improvements to enhance system performance and reliability.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience as an RPG Developer with extensive knowledge of IBM iSeries (AS/400) systems.
- Expertise in RPG IV, RPG Free, CL, SQL, and DB2/400.
- Proven experience in leading development projects and mentoring junior developers.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

- Aldon software change management
- Free format RPG
- iSeries Journaling
- ProfoundUI
- Modernisation tooling - X-Analysis or similar
- JIRA
