Senior Backend Engineer – Platform

We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Platform Pod, a horizontal team that supports the cross-functional needs of the organization. This role focuses on strengthening and extending backend systems that enable internal admin tooling, customer workflows, and cross-pod initiatives.

You will play a critical part in ensuring that OpenFX’s platform remains secure, scalable, and reliable, while supporting projects that cut across trading, security, product, and operations. This is a high-ownership role where your fintech experience and technical expertise will directly shape how the company scales.

• Backend Engineering: Expand, secure, and optimize backend services that power internal admin tooling and customer-facing workflows.
• Scalability & Reliability: Ensure platform services are resilient, fault-tolerant, and performant as OpenFX grows.
• Security & Compliance: Harden access controls, approvals, and backend processes to meet financial-grade standards.
• Cross-Functional Support: Partner with product managers, frontend engineers, and other pods to deliver solutions across the org.
• Org-Wide Impact: Contribute engineering capacity to horizontal projects that don’t fit neatly into a single pod, relieving strain on core trading and growth teams.
• Technical Excellence: Uphold high standards for code quality, reviews, and engineering culture.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a senior role.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Proficiency in Node.js with TypeScript.
• Experience with messaging systems (Kafka, Redpanda, RabbitMQ, or similar).
• Experience designing and maintaining REST/gRPC APIs in production.
• Ability to design for performance, scalability, and reliability in production systems.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment.

• Full stack capability (React, TypeScript, or similar).
• Background in compliance-driven workflows, admin tooling, or customer account management.
• Contributions to cross-team or platform-wide engineering projects.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and Kubernetes-based deployments.
