Analytics Professionals are the data driven, business professionals providing solutions to all areas across the Caterpillar enterprise.
Marketing & Branding Analytics uses quantitative methods such as business simulations, data mining, and advanced statistical techniques to solve marketing challenges for internal and external Caterpillar customers. The Marketing & Branding Sr.Data Scientist serves as a consultant and company expert in advanced analytics, contributing his or her expertise to teams tasked with solving complex marketing and brand challenges, assisting in the mentoring of data scientists in the team, and initiating and completing multiple (2-3) independent marketing-related analytic projects. This individual is recognized as one of the best in the company and recognized externally in the industry for his or her marketing & brand analytics expertise. The principal responsibility of Senior Data Scientist is to move from being an individual contributor on analytic teams to acting as the technical lead on such teams. He or she will participate on cross-functional project teams, provide overall guidance to the technical direction of the project, and mentor Jr Information Scientists on the technical approaches being used in order to solve a problem presented by a Caterpillar Business Unit or Service Organization, a Caterpillar Dealer, or a Caterpillar Customer.
At this level, individuals demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature analytic and business judgment as they anticipate and solve unprecedented problems, determine program objectives and requirements, organize programs and projects, and arrive at practical solutions for diverse internal customers. As the individual will be solely responsible for the timely delivery of actionable analysis to a customer, he or she must demonstrate exceptional initiative, judgment, planning and organization, and a knack for innovation. The individual will also serve as a consultant to other analytic teams or to other Caterpillar Business Units or Service Organizations, and will assist in the mentoring of other marketing research or data analysts, he or she should also possess effective interpersonal, teamwork, and people development skills.
Background/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in AI, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics or a similar field with quantitative coursework, and 8+ years of marketing analytics experience utilizing quantitative analysis, a Master's degree and 6+ years of experience, or a PhD in one of the associated fields.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
  • Strong knowledge of Google Analytics, propensity modelling, marketing attribution and customer journey analysis techniques.
  • Experience working with large datasets and cloud-based data platforms.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum methodologies, including proficiency in sprint planning, stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Familiarity with the latest Agile practices such as Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), and Kanban is desirable.
