Senior Firmware Engineer

Primary Responsibilities

• Senior Firmware Engineer that can capably lead/work independently on Firmware design and development tasks while working within the common core code base used within Coherent Inc’s high-performance transceiver and optical modules.
• Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for complex systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
• Work with low-level protocols such as UART, I2C, SPI, and MDIO for communication between devices
• Implement efficient sorting algorithms and design-specific algorithms tailored to embedded systems.
• Develop and debug embedded Linux software, leveraging Yocto, OpenWRT, and device driver development skills.
• Perform data analysis and work with sorting algorithms, designing specific algorithms as required by project specifications.
• Utilize scripting languages such as Shell and Python to automate tasks, Debugging, board bringup,test scripts for FPGA and etc.
• Simulate and verify firmware to ensure robustness and error-free operation.
• Use tools such as oscilloscopes, debuggers (Keil, Eclipse), and other hardware diagnostics to troubleshoot and optimize firmware.
• Must develop a complete understanding of the Coherent Inc. common core code base and assist with implementation and/or debug for all assigned development projects.
• Develop Firmware for transceiver modules as schedules and target dates require.
• Guide and assist module designers to complete digital embedded module controller related hardware designs.
• Coordinate Firmware development with hardware, manufacturing, test and other groups.
• Be familiar with industry standards and customer requirements. 
• Evaluate future requirements and define/develop the needed Firmware architecture to meet these requirements.
• Perform training and support of Coherent Inc. personnel in field of expertise.

• Interact with critical customers to provide technical support, as needed.

  
  

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's/Master's degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), or Computer Science Engineering (CSE).
• Minimum 6 years of experience in embedded firmware development.
• Expertise in C, C++, Data Structures (DS), and Embedded Linux programming.
• Proficiency in UART, I2C, SPI, and MDIO communication protocols.
• Experience with Yocto/OpenWRT and Embedded Linux Device Driver development is highly desirable.
• Good to have knowledge of FPGA code development toolchains, specifically Quartus and ModelSim.
• Familiarity with scripting languages (Shell and Python) for automation, debugging, board bring up, and test scripts for FPGA.
• Good to have knowledge of digital signal processing methods/techniques.
• Strong experience in simulation, verification, and debugging.
• Proficient in using debugging and analysis tools such as GDB(Linux), Keil, Eclipse, and oscilloscopes.

Working Conditions

• Should be flexible to work outside of business hours.
• The work mode of Finisar India is Hybrid i.e. 3 days at office.
