The role sits within the Bankwest Technology division. Bankwest is a subsidiary of The Commonwealth Bank, and the Bankwest Technology division (BWT) is accountable for maintaining system resilience and supporting the delivery of our bold technology strategy at pace and scale. 

Bankwest Technology consists of Platforms and Chapters underpinned by areas of expertise that manage Bankwest technology, applications and systems to support the Bankwest business. Bankwest Technology is located primarily in Bankwest Place in Perth, WA and has a total approx. 650 employees.

Bankwest Technology is made up of the following areas of expertise: 

  • Technology Programs 
  • Engineering and Automation 
  • Strategy & Agility 
  • GTS Technology Platforms and Service Management 
  • Chief Technology Office 
  • Risk and Control Advisory and Delivery

You will be working as a team member within the squad having 4-5 developers and act as a quality advocate for the squad.

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a Senior Quality Engineer,

  • Act as "Quality Advocate" for the squad, encourage critical thinking mindset and drive prevention of defects over detection of defects. 
  • Contribute to the development of test harnesses, frameworks, tools and infrastructure to enable test automation, CI/CD and code quality.
  • Build robust test doubles to minimize dependencies.
  • Maintain, curate and monitor non-production environments.
  • Influence product design, implementation and enhancement to support testability and quality
  • Identify and advocate for process changes to improve product quality.
  • Automate real time anomaly detection through services such as log monitoring.
  • Build and integrate and maintain solutions to provide test data.
  • Implement and utilize standardized metrics and reporting to provide testing and quality insights.
  • Create well-engineered, scalable and reliable tests, and review tests created by other engineers.
  • Cultivate engagement and learning culture through activities such as guild presentations and blog posts.
  • Support and mentor Quality Engineers. 
  • Stakeholder Management – communication with a range of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical at all levels, including explaining complex technical issues to a non-technical audience.
  • Risk Mindset – All Bankwest employees are expected to proactively identify and understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks.

Essential Skills:

Minimum 8-12 years of experience with expert level knowledge, working with the following.

  • Minimum 8 years deep experience in Quality Engineering, with more than 3 years leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge and deep experience in modern software engineering methodologies
  • Excellent technical skills, able to pair with developers for continuous delivery and testing
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Banking domain is advantageous

Experience working with the following Tools: 

  • Playwright
  • CA DevTest
  • TeamCity 
  • Postman 
  • GitHub
  • AWS knowledge (Preferred)

Awareness of the following Software Development Concepts: 

  • REST and API Development 
  • CI/CD and DevOps 
  • TDD and BDD 
  • Microservices Architecture 
  • Secure Coding Practices 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/ Information Technology.
