The Okta platform provides directory services, single sign-on, strong authentication, provisioning, workflow, and built in reporting. It runs in the cloud on a secure, reliable, extensively audited platform and integrates deeply with on premises applications, directories, and identity management systems.

We are looking for a full stack engineer to join our high caliber Universal Directory Engineering team. Your role will be to help us provide a world class experience to our customers. Okta's identity management group is focusing on identity stores and managing the lifecycle. Our platform manages users, groups and memberships, with stringent performance, reliability and scalability requirements. This role is to build, design solutions, and maintain our platform for scale. The ideal candidate is someone who has experience building software systems to manage and deploy reliable and performant infrastructure and product code at scale on a cloud infrastructure.


Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work with product & design teams to deliver world-class user experiences.
  • Delight our customers by providing world class UX using our React-based design system.
  • Understand our universal directory codebase and development process: Jira, Technical Designs, Code Review, Testing, and Deployment.
  • Work with senior engineering team in major development projects, design and implementation
  • Provide support and handle incoming bugs and customer reported issues
  • Conduct quality code reviews and automated testings 
  • Work with QA team to outline and implement comprehensive test coverage for broad features
  • As part of the ongoing development in the team, provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Interface with cross-functional teams (Architects, QA, Product, Technical Support, Documentation, and backend teams) to develop connectors to on-prem and cloud apps
  • Partner with our Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams for scoping the development and deployment work


Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • 5+ years of software development experience building highly-reliable, mission- critical software
  • Expertise with frontend application development.
  • Experience with object-oriented languages, e.g. Java and/or Golang.
  • Solid understanding of Javascript and experience with modern Javascript frameworks (e.g., React, Angular).
  • Experience with data stores, e.g. relational databases, graph DB, etc.
  • Experience with one or more of the following Directory services: Active Directory, LDAP
  • Experience with RESTful APIs and gRPC
  • Experience working with a system of scale.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with server-side technologies including caching, asynchronous processing, and multi-threading
  • Experience in TDD
  • Knowledge of Identity and Access Management protocols and technologies: OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML, etc
  • Experience automating and deploying large scale production services in AWS, GCP or similar

 Education and Training:

  • B.S. Computer Science or related field
