Senior, Software Engineer

About Search:

Search Team at WalmartLabs is responsible for driving the e-commerce Search across multiple Walmart sites. We work in an ever-changing environment and use cutting-edge technologies to solve complex business problems.  At Walmart, we work across borders, and without limits.  As a member of this team, you would be working on e-commerce search platform team; you would be specifically focused on market or segment based on your role and responsibility. As a member of Search Team, you would be working on improving customers search journey. You will use your engineering experience and technical skill to affect how customer discovers millions of items daily. Design high performance and scalable solutions that meet the needs of millions of Walmart customers. Build solutions that enable sophisticated analytics on terabytes of data collected from various sources. Implement cutting-edge models and algorithms that operate on massive amounts of data. Develop high performance and scalable solutions that extract, transform, and load big data.  

Our team is responsible for design, development, and operations of large-scale data systems operating at scale. We focus on real-time indexing pipelines, web crawling, streaming analytics, distributed machine learning infrastructure. We interact with multiple teams across the company to provide scalable robust technical solutions.

What you'll do –

• Through this role you would be responsible for the architecture, design, and development of crucial components of large-scale, highly performant scalable systems. 

• You will be focusing on Search Runtime Backend Web services which caters to millions of customers everyday on Walmart Ecomm platform.  

• You will be delivering technology solutions those that will enable the business to make critical decisions. 

• You will be independently driving the engagement with product management and other engineering teams within Walmart. 

• You will also have to provide technical leadership and mentoring to a team of highly talented and motivated engineers to deliver these solutions with the highest quality. 

• You will show your skills in analysing and testing programs/products before formal launch to ensure flawless performance 

• You will also be required to seek ways to improve the software and its effectiveness. 

• Software security is of prime importance and by developing programs that monitor sharing of private information, you will be able to add tremendous credibility to your work 

What you'll bring:

• Walmart scale - exposure to various Walmart business units like Jet, Hayneedle, Walmart eCommerce.
• Interact with highly skilled Architects community to share and learn new technologies, scale, performance etc
• Gain hands on experience to design scalable solutions, work with Walmart business, product
• Gain development experience of sophisticated, scalable and high performing system
• Leverage to open-source technologies using public clouds; build and mentor engineers; present ideas to larger organizations groups including innovation; foster culture independently to run team.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.  
• Strong computer science fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, storage technologies, distributed computing, operating systems, etc. 
• Minimum 6+ years of object-oriented programming experience in Java.  
• 4+ years of experience in building and architecting complex web microservices involving tech stack – Java, Spring, JPA, NoSQL etc.  
• 4+ years of experience in systems design, algorithms, and distributed systems.  
• Large scale distributed systems experience, including scalability and fault tolerance.  
• Exposure to cloud infrastructure, such as Azure, GCP, or AWS  
• A continuous drive to explore, improve, enhance, automate and optimize systems and tools.  
• Strong computer science fundamentals in data structures and algorithms  
• Exposure to information retrieval, statistics, and machine learning.  
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
