Who we want:
Vocera now a part of Stryker is looking for a talented, hands-on Senior Staff Engineer (AI Application Developer) to join our growing organization and contribute to the development of cutting-edge AI applications. You will help to design and implement new requirements for various speech interactions between the Stryker endpoints and front-end applications in a hybrid cloud architecture. This role is perfect for someone passionate about AI technologies and eager to solve real-world problems.
What you will do:
Technical Responsibilities:

Integrate pre-trained speech recognition and other AI models into our applications to drive new features.

Develop voice-enabled applications such as virtual assistants, voice search, transcription services, speaker diarization, and voice commands, using speech recognition APIs and other AI tools

Fine-tune existing speech models to meet the specific needs of the application, adjusting for domain-specific vocabulary, accents, and background noise.

Work with UI/UX designers to create intuitive, user-friendly voice interfaces and ensure that speech recognition is a seamless part of the user experience.

Conduct thorough testing of voice-enabled features, evaluating the system's accuracy, responsiveness, and scalability across various devices and environments.

Partnering effectively with product owners and key internal stakeholders to ascertain product requirements.

Practicing good engineering methodologies within an Agile development framework.

Actively engaging in continuous learning through peer review and professional development opportunities.

Write clear documentation for the integration process, usage guidelines, and troubleshooting tips to help other developers and stakeholders work with these AI-based features.

Develop several invention disclosures, patents, or trade secrets

Independently make design tradeoff decisions while designing multiple components of the system

Ability to generate and review the necessary documents with project teams. (requirements/design/architecture/bugs/test)

Contribute to and execute customer-facing activities like the voice of the customer and customer-centric design in partnership with internal and external stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications (Required):
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering/ Computer Science or related discipline & 6+ years of work experience
Preferred Qualifications (Strongly desired):
Technical Skills:

Experience integrating third-party APIs and services, particularly speech recognition APIs (e.g., Microsoft Azure Speech, Google Cloud Speech-to-Text, and AWS Transcribe).

Experience with Microsoft Azure Open AI studio to develop voice-driven applications.

Strong experience with cloud platforms and services such as Azure for data storage and application development.

Good understanding of large language models, extensive experience in natural language processing (NLP), and a proven track record of developing, testing, and refining high-quality prompts that enhance AI model performance.

Solid background in Java development.

Strong understanding of speech recognition concepts, including transcription accuracy, speech-to-text workflows, and handling of noisy audio data.

Proficient in scripting languages such as Python for data engineering and automation.

Hands-on expertise in designing cloud-native architectures on Azure, focusing on scalability, security, and cost optimization.

Familiarity with other cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP, and their associated services.

Experience with audio processing tools and libraries (e.g., FFmpeg, pydub) is a plus.

Exposure to Natural Language Processing (NLP) or other AI tools integrated with speech recognition, such as sentiment analysis or intent recognition.
