About the company
Our mission is that “Any financial application can onboard any user, anywhere in the world, in 1 click.”
Transak provides onboarding to financial applications through authentication, KYC, risk checks, and fiat on/off ramps. This is a next generation of infrastructure for the next generation of financial applications that are built on blockchain and stablecoin rails. Our API and widget-based solutions are used by top partners like MetaMask, Coinbase, Ledger, and Trust Wallet to enable seamless onboarding of over 10 million users across over 450 active applications.
We have raised over $37M from top-tier investors including Consensys, Tether, and Animoca Brands.
About the role
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer 1 (Backend) to build and scale the APIs and services that power Transak's global on/off ramp platform. You will work primarily with Node.js, MongoDB, and Redis in a microservices environment, shipping production features that are used by millions of users across our partner applications.
This role is ideal for an engineer with 2–5 years of experience who writes clean, well-tested code, cares about correctness and performance, and wants to grow into owning services end-to-end. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, product, and other pods, learning how we design for scale, reliability, and security in a regulated fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities
- API & Service Development
- Build, test, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services in Node.js.
- Model data effectively in MongoDB and use Redis for caching, queues, and rate limiting.
- Contribute to microservices with clean, readable, and well-documented code.
- Quality & Reliability
- Write unit and integration tests; participate in code reviews.
- Debug, profile, and fix issues in staging and production.
- Follow secure coding practices in a compliance-sensitive domain.
- Collaboration & Delivery
- Understand the product and business context behind engineering requirements and contribute to shaping solutions, not just implementation.
- Break down tasks, give reliable estimates, and ship iteratively.
- Work with senior engineers on design and integrate feedback quickly.
- Coordinate with frontend, product, and other backend pods on shared contracts.
- Learning & Growth
- Ramp up on distributed systems concepts and asynchronous communication patterns.
- Proactively improve areas of the codebase you touch.
What We’re Looking For
- 2–5 years of backend development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience building APIs with Node.js.
- Working experience with MongoDB and Redis.
- Exposure to a microservices architecture.
- Solid fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and problem solving.
- A good team player who collaborates well and gels easily with the team.
- Strong problem-solving ability and product thinking — able to understand the underlying user/business problem, break down ambiguous requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and propose practical solutions rather than simply executing predefined tasks.
Nice-To-Haves
- Exposure to distributed systems complexity (consistency, idempotency, retries, failure handling).
- Experience with asynchronous communication (message queues, event-driven patterns, pub/sub).
- Understanding of frontend systems and how they consume backend APIs.
- Experience in high-growth fintech or Web3 startups.
