Description

At Paymentology, we’re redefining what’s possible in the payments space. As the first truly global issuer-processor, we give banks and fintechs the technology and talent to launch and manage Mastercard and Visa cards at scale - across more than 60 countries.

Our advanced, multi-cloud platform delivers real-time data, unmatched scalability, and the flexibility of a network of regional hubs. It's this global reach and innovation that sets us apart.

We’re looking for an experienced Development Database Adminstrator (DevDBA) to support the design, maintenance, and performance optimisation of mission-critical applications running on Microsoft SQL Server. This role sits at the intersection of Engineering, Production DBA, DevOps, and Data Architecture teams, where you will proactively improve database performance, enhance development practices, and ensure SQL Server environments remain resilient, scalable, and efficient.

If you’re passionate about database performance, optimisation, and collaborating across teams to deliver high-performing systems, this is your opportunity to make a global impact.

What you get to do:

Database Performance & Optimisation

  • Proactively monitor production databases to identify resource-intensive and long-running queries
  • Regularly review key performance indicators and server metrics to uncover optimisation opportunities
  • Analyse performance issues and collaborate with Data Architecture and Production DBA teams to define and execute remediation plans

Development Collaboration & Best Practices

  • Partner with development teams to tune and optimise queries, design effective indexing strategies, and improve database performance
  • Provide input on SQL-related code changes as part of the code review process
  • Develop and document SQL development best practices and deliver guidance and training to development teams

Environment Management

  • Build and maintain realistic, automated database environments to support development and testing activities
Requirements

What it takes to succeed:

  • 4-5 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Strong understanding of SQL Server internals and architecture
  • Advanced knowledge of T-SQL, including complex queries, stored procedures, and triggers
  • Advanced expertise in query optimisation and performance tuning
  • Experience working with at least one widely used programming language to understand application-database interactions
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
  • Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing skills
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to influence engineering best practices
  • Interest in understanding business processes and how they map to data models

What you can look forward to:

At Paymentology, it’s not just about building great payment technology, it’s about building a company where people feel they belong and their work matters. You’ll be part of a diverse, global team that’s genuinely committed to making a positive impact through what we do. Whether you’re working across time zones or getting involved in initiatives that support local communities, you’ll find real purpose in your work - and the freedom to grow in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.
