JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Database Administrator with strong expertise in MySQL and MongoDB. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and securing our database infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance across mission-critical systems.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee and maintain MySQL, Aurora, and MongoDB databases on AWS, MongoDB Atlas and Percona clusters.
• Architect and implement high-availability, resilience, and failover solutions for all database platforms.
• Handle BAU operations, including database monitoring, observability, routine health assessments, and ongoing maintenance.
• Automate monitoring workflows and establish standardized alerting mechanisms to proactively prevent production incidents.
• Manage regular backup operations and lead disaster recovery planning, execution, and validation.
• Develop and execute strategies to enhance database performance across the organization.
• Optimize queries and database structures for performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to support application requirements.
• Conduct capacity planning and project future database resource requirements.
• Maintain documentation related to database architecture and operations.

COMPETENCIES

Must have skills:

• Strong hands-on experience in MySQL and MongoDB database administration in cloud for both community and enterprise editions.
• Proficiency in database performance tuning and query optimization.
• Experience with replication, clustering, and high availability setups.
• Deep understanding of database security principles, compliance standards, and access controls.
• Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting.
• Experience in performing database version upgrades, migrations, and platform transitions.
• Experience in reviewing and execution of database scripts as part of release deployment.
• Well-versed in IT change management processes and governance.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS & GCP) and managed database services.
• Availability for shift-based and On-Call work schedules, including after-hours and holidays.

Good to have/ Desired skills:

• Familiarity with other databases like PostgreSQL or Oracle is a plus.
• Experience in Software licensing and costing. Knowledge of MySQL and MongoDB database cloud hosting and cost optimization.
• Experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, New Relic or equivalent.
• Experience in database migration from MongoDB Atlas to Percona.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

 Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or equivalent

 Holding a DBA Certification in either MongoDB or MySQL would be a plus

 Minimum 8 years of relevant experience each in MongoDB and MySQL administration.
