Sr Manager of Software Engineering - Fullstack Java & React

As a Senior Manager of Software Engineering at JPMorganChase within the Consumer and Community Banking, you serve in a leadership role by providing technical coaching and advisory for multiple technical teams, as well as anticipate the needs and potential dependencies of other functions within the firm. As an expert in your field, your insights influence budget and technical considerations to advance operational efficiencies and functionalities. Looking for 15 and above years of experience.

Job responsibilities

• Design and implement scalable, resilient, high-performance solutions using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, React.js, javascript, AWS, and PostgreSQL.
• Deliver creative software solutions across design, development, and technical troubleshooting, applying non-routine approaches to solve complex engineering problems
• Identify and drive automation or permanent fixes for recurring issues to improve the operational stability of applications and systems
• Lead technical evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs, technical credentials, and fit within the existing technology landscape
• Lead software engineering communities of practice to increase awareness and adoption of new and leading-edge technologies. Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to engineering teams, supporting the growth and development of junior engineers
• Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for complex, large-scale systems
• Collaborate with Product Owners, business stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
• Oversee end-to-end software delivery, ensuring alignment with business goals, timelines, and quality standards. Develop secure, high-quality production code and perform code reviews, debugging, and quality improvements on code written by others
• Creates a culture of diversity, opportunity, inclusion, and respect for the team members and prioritizes diverse representation
• Sets and scales operating practices for enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering and SDLC/TLM automation across multiple teams to improve delivery speed, quality, and operational outcomes; establishes measurable expectations (e.g., throughput, defect reduction, reliability) and ensures consistent validation, security, resiliency, and reuse of proven patterns.
• Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to drive efficiency and support capacity unlock initiatives across teams, prioritizing reuse of existing firm technology assets.

 Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification on Software Engineering concepts and 5+ years applied experience. In addition, experience in leading technologists to manage and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
• Experience leading technology projects. Experience managing technologists
• Strong proficiency in Java (required), with working knowledge of SQL and React.js, and a solid understanding of software development best practices
• Extensive hands-on experience with RDBMS, particularly Oracle and PostgreSQL, including database design, query optimization, and performance tuning
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure provisioning tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation (or equivalent)
• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
• In-depth knowledge of the financial services industry and their IT systems. Practical cloud native experience
• Experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and expertise in technology disciplines
• Experience leading multi-team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and delivery tools, including defining governance/ways of working (human-in-the-loop validation, quality gates), measuring outcomes, and ensuring secure handling of sensitive inputs/outputs.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity considerations, resiliency/security implications, and control expectations; ability to coach managers/leads and influence leaders on safe scaling patterns.

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Certifications in target areas (Cloud/Kubernetes/IaC etc.)
• Understanding of the Payments processing in a Bank
• Formal training or certification on JavaScript concepts and proficient advanced experience. Design and implement scalable, resilient, high-performance solutions using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, React.js, javascript, AWS, and PostgreSQL. Strong knowledge of React, JavaScript, TypeScript, and ES6+ syntax, UI design systems
• Familiarity with writing unit tests. Ability to work in a dynamic, agile environment within a geographically distributed teams
• Ability to focus on promptly addressing customer needs. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
