We’re looking for problem solvers, innovators, and dreamers who are searching for anything but business as usual. Like us, you’re a high performer who’s an expert at your craft, constantly challenging the status quo. You value inclusivity and want to join a culture that empowers you to show up as your authentic self. You know that success hinges on commitment, that our differences make us stronger, and that the finish line is always sweeter when the whole team crosses together.

Our Global Content team is looking for a talented technical writer who wants to create valuable content experiences for our audience. Our team writes content for help.alteryx.com and affiliated sites. Our site is available in 8 languages and has over 100,000 monthly users.

You’ll fit right in if you are passionate about online technical communication and helping customers to find the answers they need. You will thrive if you believe that all customers should have a helpful, positive, and accessible experience, regardless of the language they choose and the technologies they use to navigate and consume our content.

We look for friendly individuals that work well with others, are open to suggestions from their peers, consider feedback is a gift, and appreciate coaching.

What you will own and improve

·       Authoring documentation: You will create content that enables our customers to use and configure our products. Sometimes you will also explain the underlying technology. This may include release notes, help articles, in-product help copy, tutorials, examples, and one-off articles. You will get one or more products or components to own, as well as support our tech writing teammates with their products as needed.

·       Publishing documentation: We create our content in the CMS (Paligo) and publish it in AWS. You will own the process for generating the outputs (usually in HTML5), testing, and publishing them. You will also collaborate with the other tech writers to suggest improvements to the outputs and publishing process.

·       Contribute to our peer review and styles and standards processes: You will ask your fellow writers to review your work, and you will review their work. You will propose topics for styles and standards and participate in our discussions.

·       Optimizing content in our new platform: We recently migrated our content from Drupal to Paligo. We might have some content source cleanup to do, but this also gives us an opportunity to start fresh, optimize our content, and redesign our content management practices.

·       Improving the user experience on our live site: If you have the skillset and are up for a challenge, you can help us improve our site with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code. This is not a requirement for this role, but it’s an option if you’d like to work on it.

What you already know

·       You have an outstanding English level (you will write the content in American English).

·       You have a bachelor's degree (or equal experience) in a field relevant to this role.

·       You have 2 or more years of experience in technical writing for software products. Extra points if you are familiar with both cloud and on-prem products. This experience may be from previous jobs or from graduate degree programs.

·       You can translate complex technical details into easy to understand and engaging documentation.

·       You work well with multidisciplinary teams. In addition to the tech writers, you will work with engineering, product, localization, content strategists, and tech support teams.

·       You are a team player and a team builder. You thrive in multicultural and diverse environments. You are an advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

What you will learn (if you don’t know already)

·       Writing in plain language, with voice and style that is easy for translation and accessibility.

·       Creating and managing structured content in the Paligo CSM, generating HTML5 outputs, and publishing them in AWS for public consumption.

·       Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle and Agile/Scrum framework for traditional release cycles (on-prem) and continuous delivery (cloud).

·       Working with Jira and Confluence (Atlassian). You may also use GitLab for in-product copy.

·       Understanding of how websites get built and optimized for localization and accessibility. Extra points for intermediate skills in web management and dev tools like AWS (S3, EC3, CloudFront), HTML, CSS, JS, Google Analytics, Search Console, SEO, sitemaps, robots.txt, etc.

·       Using our products.

Your Team

We are part of the Product organization. Our group reports to the senior director of UX. You will be a member of the Technical Writing team, which reports to the manager of Global Content. Global Content includes two teams: Tech Writing and Localization.

Our Tech Writing team has 7 technical writers based in the USA, the Czech Republic, and India. They are passionate about styles and standards, technology, data science, and the Oxford comma. We are a diverse and inclusive team that supports and advocates for everyone to bring their whole self to work.

Work Schedule

We work flexible schedules and most work is asynchronous via Slack, Teams, Confluence, or email.

We work with teams in Australia, Europe, and America. For easier scheduling of ad-hoc meetings across time zones, we’ll set a block of office hours twice per week between 8 and 11:30 pm. However, you might need to occasionally attend early morning or evening calls on other days to accommodate other teams’ schedules. Our team’s calls are currently on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 pm Bangalore’s time.

This position is a hybrid role with remote work 3 days per week and office attendance twice per week. However, we could adjust the office days expectations if you must accommodate late or early meetings on multiple days.

Find yourself checking a lot of these boxes but doubting whether you should apply? At Alteryx, we support a growth mindset for our associates through all stages of their careers. If you meet some of the requirements and you share our values, we encourage you to apply. As part of our ongoing commitment to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, we’re invested in building teams with a wide variety of backgrounds, identities, and experiences.

This position involves access to software/technology that is subject to U.S. export controls. Any job offer made will be contingent upon the applicant’s capacity to serve in compliance with U.S. export controls.
