About The Role 

The Staff Engineer role is a critical role in the Engineering team. You will be the backbone of our backend engineering team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the role includes ownership of products to deliver and operate high quality, scalable, and extensible software, including making appropriate design and technology choices.

This is a hands-on individual contributor that requires the ability to hire and grow top engineering talent and have the ability to roll up the sleeves to code and code reviews as required for feature delivery. 

 The role also requires strong strategic thinking, with the ability to think of out-of-the-box solutions and make build/buy/partner decisions. Strong communication inside and outside of engineering is critical, working closely with customers and the product and operations teams to translate customer requirements into code.

What You’ll Do 

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining the robust backend code that forms a crucial part of web applications. 

  • Create astounding designs and breathe life into web applications, using your excellent backend development skills. 

  • Collaborate closely with the frontend team to develop and maintain APIs that will enable seamless communication between the frontend and backend parts of our applications. 

  • Scavenge and scour through mountains of data to fetch, retrieve, index and analyze it accurately, to ensure our applications offer maximum speed and scalability. 

  • Troubleshoot backend code issues like a pro and keep the security of our applications as tight as a fortress, by preventing any unauthorized access. 

  • Nurture junior developers and enable them to hone their backend development skills through guidance and mentorship. 

  • Engage in continual learning and stay updated with the latest emerging trends and best practices in backend development. 

  • Actively participate in the hiring process to bring world-class programmers in the team 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or a related field. 

  • A minimum of 6 years of demonstrated excellence in backend development. 
    Exhibiting versatility with a flair for multiple programming languages such as Python, Java, Node JS, or other backend technologies. 

  • Hands-on experience in cloud-native architectures, and Data storage, retrieval, indexing and analysis. 

  • A masterful command of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns, crafting simple yet elegant solutions that leave a lasting impact. 

  • Expert at designing and implementing scalable and reliable systems 

  • Adeptness to handle relational and non-relational databases, such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra 

  • Proficiency with message brokers, such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS 

  • Experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker and Kubernetes 

  • Hands on Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. 

  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture 

  • Experience with microservices architecture and related technologies. 

  • Strong understanding of DevOps practices and tools, such as Jenkins, Git, and Terraform. 

  • An outstanding record of working in Agile methodologies and software development best practices such as code reviews, unit testing, CI & CD etc. 

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications 

  • Experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop, Spark, or Flink. 

  • Strong open-source contributions or participation in relevant technical communities 

  • Experience in leading and managing technical teams.
