Job Description

The Technical Writer Team Lead will guide a team of writers, ensuring high-quality, consistent documentation for developer and user audiences. You will set documentation standards, manage content, and integrate processes with Agile Scrum cycles to align with product releases. Key responsibilities include team leadership, cross-functional collaboration, quality assurance, and optimizing documentation tools and workflows. The lead will work closely with Product, Engineering, DevOps and other SMEs to deliver accessible, accurate content and continuously improve documentation practices based on user feedback and analytics.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of technical writers, providing guidance, feedback and promoting continuous learning and knowledge-sharing.

2. Documentation Standards

  • Define and implement documentation standards, style guides, and best practices to maintain consistency and quality across all content.
  • Evaluate and enhance documentation processes to align with product development and release schedules, embedding writers in Agile Scrum teams for synchronization with sprint cycles and product releases.

3. Content Creation & Management

  • Guide and oversee the creation of various types of documentation, including user guides, API references, tutorials, release notes, and integration guides.
  • Ensure that documentation is accurate, user-friendly, and accessible, catering to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Write and edit technical content when needed, maintaining high standards for clarity, conciseness, and accuracy.

4. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as a liaison between the documentation team and other departments to facilitate clear communication and smooth project execution.

5. Project & Workflow Management

  • Plan and manage documentation projects, setting priorities, timelines, and resources to ensure timely delivery.
  • Track project milestones, identify potential roadblocks, and coordinate with team members to keep projects on track.

6. User Feedback & Analytics

  • Actively gather and analyze user feedback to refine documentation and improve user satisfaction.

7. Documentation Tools & Technology

  • Oversee the implementation, optimization, and maintenance of documentation tools for both internal and external-facing content (e.g. Confluence, OpenAPI/Swagger integration, GitHub, Developer Portal, etc.).

8. Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

  • Regularly report on documentation progress, key milestones, and metrics to upper management and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

What would make me a good candidate?

  • 5+ years of experience in technical writing with a focus on software documentation, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating software product guides and API documentation, with a strong focus on OpenAPI/Swagger, GitHub integration, and SDK documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • A proven history of effectively developing and executing innovative workflows, processes, technical solutions, and tools.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
