The Trainee in the Data Platform & BI CoE will work at the intersection of business, data engineering, and analytics. This role is designed for someone who naturally understands business problems, asks the right questions, and enjoys converting ambiguous needs into clear technical requirements. This role will have natural affinity for documentation, customer support and communication in the data ecosystem.
You will gain hands-on exposure to data engineering concepts, databases, SQL, cloud platforms, data lakes, data warehouses, and enterprise reporting. You will support the creation of governed, scalable, and high-quality BI solutions used across the organization.

You will gain hands-on exposure to data engineering concepts, databases, SQL, cloud platforms, data lakes, data warehouses, and enterprise reporting. You will support the creation of governed, scalable, and high-quality BI solutions used across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
1. Business Analysis & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Engage with business teams to translate problems into structured use cases, KPIs, dimensions, metrics, and acceptance criteria.
- Document business requirements, process flows, user stories, and functional specifications, wire-frames.
- Serve as a bridge between business users, data engineers, and BI developers.
2. Platform Maintenance, Documentation & Community Championship
- Assist in routine checks of Power BI workspaces, Databricks repos/catalog entries, and shared semantic models.
- Contribute to CoE playbooks, templates, and standards, training materials.
- Build a strong community and host training sessions.
3. BI Development & Reporting (Supervised)
- Assist in building Power BI reports using solid fundamentals of semantic modeling (dimensions/facts/star schema).
- Maintain Power BI Tenant.
- Write intermediate SQL for querying and validating datasets.
- Implement standardized visuals, DAX measures, RLS/OLS, and follow BI CoE design guidelines.
4. Cloud & Platform Awareness
- Develop a working understanding of cloud concepts (compute, storage, networking basics, IAM, scalability).
- Familiarity with platforms like Azure, Databricks, SQL Warehouse, Fabric, or equivalent is preferred.
- Support activities around deployment, workspace structures, ABAC/RBAC policies, and platform governance.
5. Testing, UAT & Adoption Support
- Prepare test scenarios, UAT cases, and validate end-to-end functionality.
- Assist with change management, enablement sessions, and documentation for business users.
- Track adoption, gather feedback, and help refine dashboards and KPIs.
Must-Have Skills:
- Strong natural curiosity and ability to break down business problems logically.
- Intermediate knowledge of SQL (joins, aggregations, window functions preferred).
- Basic knowledge of data engineering concepts (pipelines, transformations, medallion/layered architecture).
- Understanding of cloud fundamentals (compute, storage, IAM, security).
- Working knowledge of Power BI or another BI tool (data model, Power Query, visuals).
- Strong documentation skills (BRD/PRD, user stories, data dictionary).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Exposure to Databricks, Unity Catalog, Fabric, or enterprise data platforms.
- Basic DAX knowledge and understanding of semantic modeling.
- Familiarity with Agile methodology, Jira/Azure Boards.
- Knowledge of data quality checks, SLA concepts, and data contracts.
- Basic statistics (trends, distributions).
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's/Master's in Engineering or Masters in Business.
- 0-1 year experience; internships or academic projects in analytics/engineering are a plus.
- Portfolio demonstrating SQL, BI, or analytics work is a strong advantage.
