General program information and/or position overview.

The candidate will support the NIWC Pacific Radiation Detection, Implementation and Computation (RADIAC) program in the design, development and deployment of radiation detection systems. The candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of technicians, engineers and scientists to research detection technologies, interface with users to understand needs and requirements and field complete radiation detection solutions.

Primary Responsibilities. Lead the design, development, and implementation of embedded systems, including hardware-software integration.
Basic Qualifications.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college/university. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of work experience designing, developing, and supporting radiation detection systems.
  • Extensive experience with hardware-software co-design, embedded systems, and microcontroller programming.
  • Strong knowledge of computer architecture, networking protocols, and operating systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C, Python, or Java.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Experience using real time operating systems (RTOS) for embedded applications.
  • Experience using bench tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to troubleshoot embedded systems.
  • Clear communicator (oral and written)
  • Organized

  Preferred Qualifications.

  • Knowledge of FPGA design is a plus.
  • Experience with continuous integration / continuous development techniques (CI/CD) is a plus.
  • NIWC Pacific RADIAC Boilerplate:

    • Architect and optimize embedded systems for performance, scalability, and security. 
    • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and reports. 
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists, software engineers, electrical engineers, and product managers. 
    • Conduct research and stay updated with emerging technologies to integrate innovative solutions. 
    • Oversee system validation, testing, and troubleshooting processes to ensure reliability and efficiency. 
    • Provide travel and field support as needed for system deployment, testing, and troubleshooting in real-world environments. 
    • Assist in directing and mentoring junior engineers, providing technical guidance and leadership. 
    • Work with stakeholders to define project requirements and ensure alignment with business objectives

Pay Range:Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00
