At Applied Materials, our innovations make possible the technology shaping the future.Senior Hardware EngineerRole: We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to drive the development of high performance of subsystems for a new tool platform at Applied Materials. As part of a multi-disciplinary team working on exciting new technologies, this role also offers solid personal career growth opportunities.Responsibilities:

  • Understanding the system requirements and derive hardware requirement for PCBA
  • Conduct feasibility studies and evaluate different hardware options to determine the most suitable solution.
  • Take ownership and lead the conceptual studies by designing, building, testing,
  • Design and build prototypes at the module or system level.
  • Design and develop hardware components such as circuit boards with microcontrollers/FPGA, sensors, and interfaces.
  • Ownership component selections, schematics entry, able to perform analog and digital circuit simulations, BOM management, layout reviews.
  • Owner of hardware design reviews.
  • Identify and troubleshoot hardware issues, providing timely resolution.
  • Identify the technical risks in the design, propose / implement mitigation strategies.
  • Actively participate in DFMEA processes

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION:

  • ME/M.Tech/BE/B.Tech in Electrical/Electronics engineering or equivalent
  • 8-15 Years of experience in working with Hardware designs

TECHNICAL COMPETENCY:Proficiency in schematic capture (Cadence OrCad ).

  • Strong expertise in Analog circuit designs – involving Op-amps, instrumentation amplifiers and ADCs for data acquisition, DACs
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, Xilinx FPGA sensors, communication protocols (e.g., UART, SPI, I2C), and power management.
  • Design experience with DDR3/4,Xiinx Aurora, Ethernet(1G/10G), CMOS Camera interface
  • knowledge of high speed board design challenges, Understanding of IPC standards for High speed board designs
  • Good understanding power supply designs: DC- DC converters (Buck/Boost/LDOs).
  • Experience in using lab equipment like DMMs, Oscilloscopes, power supplies, Signal generators, LCR meter and Electronic load.

  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to analyze complex problems, break them down into smaller components, and identify potential solutions. Hardware engineers need to think critically and make informed decisions based on data and analysis.
  • Attention to Detail: Hardware design and integration require precision and accuracy. Being detail-oriented helps ensure that components are correctly selected, assembled, circuits are properly designed considering DFx, and specifications are met.
  • Problem Solving: Hardware engineers encounter challenges and obstacles throughout the design and integration process. The ability to identify problems, propose solutions, and troubleshoot issues is crucial for success in this role.
  • Creativity and Innovation: Hardware engineers are often tasked with finding innovative solutions to design challenges and improving product performance. The ability to think creatively and propose novel ideas can lead to breakthroughs and advancements in hardware design.

ADDITIONAL COMPETENCY/EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding DFMEA, Component derating analysis,
  • Signal and Power integrity challenges TL effects, PDN design and optimization, Cross talk, thermal management.
  • Awareness of Reliability testing HALT/HASS/ESD
  • Awareness of embedded C programming and VHDL is a plus.
