As a Sr. Engineering Manager on the Data Platform team, you will lead a team of engineers responsible for building and operating foundational data platform capabilities that enable trusted, well-governed, and observable data across Target. This role blends people leadership, delivery accountability, and strong technical judgment to ensure the team delivers scalable, reliable platform solutions aligned with Target’s data strategy.
You will partner closely with Principal Engineers, Product Managers, and other engineering leaders to translate platform vision into execution, while fostering a culture of engineering excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
What you’ll do
Lead, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, creating an inclusive environment where team members can grow and do their best work.
Own delivery and execution for key data management and governance platform capabilities, ensuring predictable outcomes and high engineering quality.
Partner with Product Management to define roadmaps, priorities, and success metrics that align platform investments with business and regulatory needs.
Collaborate with Principal Engineers to translate architectural vision into actionable plans and well-executed designs.
Drive strong engineering practices across the team, including design reviews, code quality, operational readiness, and incident management.
Balance short-term delivery needs with long-term platform health, scalability, and reliability.
Act as a key cross-team partner, coordinating dependencies and influencing stakeholders across data, engineering, and security organizations.
Continuously improve team processes, delivery velocity, and operational maturity.
What we’re looking for
Experience managing and developing software engineering teams in a platform or infrastructure environment.
Strong technical background with hands-on experience building or supporting large-scale data platforms or distributed systems.
Working knowledge of data management and governance concepts such as metadata, data quality, lineage, and observability.
Proven ability to deliver complex technical initiatives in partnership with product and architecture leadership.
Experience operating in an agile environment and leading teams through ambiguity and change.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
