As a Staff Software Development Engineer, you will design and deliver high performance Android apps, ensuring product quality and mentoring junior developers.

As a Staff engineer, the role entails passion to build a world-class content viewing experience for our customers by solving complex technical problems and building systems which run at an enormous scale. You are expected to design and deliver the next generation user experience and the platforms required to enable intuitive content discovery for our customers.
About the team: JioHotstar's world-record-breaking OTT platform is available in India, the international market. We are home to India's largest entertainment content catalog for the Indian diaspora in the UK. We are hiring senior engineers for our UK and international teams to develop systems that drive business growth in the country. This is a unique opportunity to work across the JioHotstar tech stack and work on the most impactful projects. You will contribute to the common stack, build frameworks to offer geography-specific differentiated features and create subscriber and business growth platform for the company.
Key responsibilities:
- You will influence how we build individual features and products, and bring in best practices and patterns that can be used for engineering lifecycle for Android discipline
- Design and build applications to deliver a high performance system and highly engaging apps.
- Take ownership of end-to-end product quality, from developing and designing to maintaining core app frameworks that help make the apps more reliable and delightful
- You will work with the engineering team to optimize applications for performance and scalability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features Serves as the functional lead, possess deep knowledge of core systems and takes full responsibility for the team's code, design, and project delivery, ensuring high quality and on-time completion
- Provide mentorship and guidance to other developers
Skills and attributes for success:
- Experience in Android mobile native applications development with sound understanding of Android Architecture, Framework, Android SDK, Kotlin, Android Studio IDE
- Expert in UI components & controls; Jetpack Compose, Action Bars, Widgets, Fragments, Navigation etc
- Expert in basic components of Android: Activity, Services, Intent, Broadcast Receiver, Content Provider
- Expert in android app performance metrics, improvement strategies and battery optimization tools
- Good working experience on Web Service Integration ( REST, JSON) & cloud technologies - AWS, GAE, Firebase
- Experience in using analytics, location and social APIs, MDM, payment gateway, SMS gateway, media content trans coding and cloud integration, APM tools
- Good experience in evangelizing best practices, design patterns and architecture decisions for the app considering trade-off and scalability.
- Experience in mentoring interns and junior engineers in the team
Preferred education and experience:
- Master's/Bachelors in Computer Science or related field with 7+ years of hands-on experience in Mobile Development.
