The Telephony Engineer architects telephony integrations, ensures secure platform performance, resolves SIP issues, and mentors junior members while supporting customer deployments.
The Telephony Engineer is a subject‑matter expert responsible for architecting complex telephony integrations, optimizing SBC behavior, guiding customer design decisions, and ensuring Sycurio’s voice platform maintains secure, resilient, PCI‑compliant performance. This engineer leads large customer delivery efforts, resolves advanced SIP/RTP/TLS issues, establishes best practices, and mentors junior team members.
Responsibilities
- Support the design and implementation of SIP trunking, call routing logic, and resilient configurations.
- Assist in building secure and reliable call delivery flows in line with business and customer requirements.
- Configure DTMF masking, RTP/SRTP handling, SIP header manipulation, and failover routing.
- Work with internal teams to validate routing across carriers, CCaaS platforms, and customer IP PBXs. SBC Configuration & Support
- Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot SBC platforms (e.g. Oracle, AudioCodes).
- Support SIP routing, topology hiding, and header manipulation tasks.
- Troubleshoot SIP call flows, including common issues with re-INVITEs, session refreshes, and media handling.
- Perform basic to intermediate packet and RTP analysis (e.g. jitter, latency, packet loss). Delivery & Operations
- Support customer deployments, testing, and implementation activities.
- Assist with telephony cutovers and configuration changes.
- Contribute to documentation, including configuration templates and support guides.
- Act as an escalation point for operational telephony issues where required. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with Network and Cloud teams on connectivity, routing, and infrastructure setup.
- Support product and engineering teams with telephony-related input.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams and customers to resolve issues and explain solutions.
Design & Implementation
Required Skills
- 2–5 years’ experience in SIP, VoIP, or telephony engineering roles.
- Solid understanding of:
- SIP fundamentals (call flows, messaging, basic troubleshooting)
- RTP/SRTP and codec behaviour
- Basic TLS and certificate concepts
- Experience working with SBCs (e.g. AudioCodes, Oracle, or similar).
- Ability to analyse SIP traces and troubleshoot call issues.
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting).
- Familiarity with enterprise connectivity (e.g. internet, VPN, MPLS).
- Exposure to virtualised environments (e.g. VMware, KVM, Hyper-V).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively. Nice to Have Skills
- Experience with cloud-based telephony environments (e.g. AWS).
- Familiarity with carrier SIP and routing requirements.
- Exposure to CCaaS platforms.
- Basic scripting or automation knowledge.
- Awareness of compliance standards such as PCI DSS. Bonus
- Experience with Asterisk, RTPengine, Kamailio, or FreeSWITCH.
- Exposure to tools such as HEPIC or HOMER.
